Actually the tender for Ferdinand looks pretty nicely sculpted. Its that glossy shine that would remind me of dog food and I would want to dull it down somehow till it became wood-like.

Maybe one could add some water to a bit of white glue and paint that on. Or use brown acrylic paint. Or use matte finish clear coat paint.

Here is that Back to the Future train and I think the wood here might not look as nice as Ferdinand’s (after you dulled it down). Or maybe you see it the other way.

I noticed there are tires under the tender for some action gimmick. Does the wood fly off when the train crashes? Or does the wood bounce around while in motion?

A video from Train Tsar Fun shows that the woman rider ejects when it crashes.

I didn’t know much of this train at all so thanks for the video as I found it very interesting. Looking at the actual engine, to me, it does look like it was created in someones backyard metal shop. 😁

This brings up a question that would be interesting to discuss…I think the Plarail or Trackmaster Neville would look pretty real if they could have created the space between the boiler and the boiler plate. There are a few other engines that would look cool to me if they could replicate that space. I realize why they don’t want to but Trackmaster already had the workable solution with the release of Ferdinand.
Without discussing why they won’t try this lets discuss some ideas as how they might achieve this visual.

Which brings me to this question: Off hand…is this Ferdinand the only Plarail/Tomy/Trackmaster model that has a wood tender? I would think it would be difficult to mass produce realistic wood in plastic to fill the tenders. I had purchased a couple bags of split wood for this very purpose to modify a tender with realistic split wood. The Ebayer would take thin sticks from his yard and cut and split it to look pretty real. I have some around the layout stacked for use in camp fires.

According to the TTTE Wiki, the following Thomas’ Friends are wood-burners: Ferdinand, Bash & Dash, Marcia & Marcio (wood-burning tender engines who work on the Eucalyptus Railway in Brazil), and Beau (an American tender engine with a moustache, who works for a mining company near the Grand Canyon). So yes, Ferdinand is the only wood-burning tender loco that’s been modeled under BPT brands.

You are right LaG, I had forgotten all about that one. However re-looking at that tender, I think those logs don’t look as good as the Ferdinand ones IMO. Curious what others think.

The traction tires on the Tender is because its a Tender Powered engine I believe.
