2002 first year Thomas variants

Hello, I acquired two Thomas engines from 2002 which are likely early Target store issues. They are identical. But I noticed the faces are different as shown in the picture. Is one a variant from a set?. The bottom markings are the same on both. : Thomas Thomas and Friends (Gullane) 2002. Then Learning Int’l , Inc. The one in the picture on the right also have the code 345.4 SS01. The other has no codes

Curious what the experts here know about these two. Which one is the common Thomas? If a set, which set did the other one come from? Thanks

I would say the 1st one is the most common as he was released in all kinds of sets and by itself but the 2nd one is from the “Thomas and Jet Engine” pack released by take along. so hopefully that answers your questions for the most part

Yes, I pulled up a sealed set that sold on eBay and the faces match for the one on the right. I am a vendor at toy train shows and I have had numerous jet engine and jet fuel cars over the years. I will label this Thomas correctly. Thanks for your help!
