I can see it. I don't like the running in that video as I don't care for the grey track to be honest would rather have seen on original tm or blue track.

Gator and Marion are out already? Gator is definitely a lot better than the (horrible) TM version.

I wonder if Timothy and Samson will be unpowered and pushed by rolling stock.

Why are we thinking so low? Come on, be a little optimistic.
We can only hope for the best. Tomy thomas has been around for 20+ years, they shouldn't give up to easily.

Rockinator... I would like to lay out the facts for you.

It's not a matter of TOMY giving up It's That...

*Mattel now owns the whole Thomas and Friends brand.
*Mattel decides who can make toys based on Thomas and friends.
*Mattel took back the wooden and Take N Play licensing from TOMY and does them both "in house" now.
*Mattel & TOMY are not friends (not at all...).
*The current licensing agreement finishes this year.
*No new licensing arrangement has been announced/Mattel announced Trackmaster is going global.

Nothing new has been announced from Plarail Thomas since announcing Marion/Gator.

So you see we are not being pessimistic, we are facing the reality of a cutthroat toy business. The sad fact is that it all might be over already and Trackmaster will be the only choice left.

It is a great shame, having started collecting the advance range of bullet trains etc... and comparing them with their bigger brothers I would have loved to have seen the Thomas range re-created in advance as then you'd have been able to have Gordon's etc... in the correct proportions to Thomas etc...

However as it is likely they are going to lose the current range it is something that will never happen...

Well then... I never realized Mattel was this far ahead of the game. I guess my current funding is going into locos.

Unless I missed something I didn't see any news of a new licensing agreement for Tomy to make Thomas brand toys after there current contract expires in the article you linked to or am I just daft and overlooked it?

I don't see anything anywhere in a Google search for what has been talked about. The closest I ever got was mentions of Mattel having a global marketing campaign for the 70th, which has mostly been events, exclusive YouTube content, and how new episodes, DVDs, and specials have been distributed.

I see what you mean now. There probably wont be any kind of official announcement from Mattel stating anything about letting the license with Tomy expire. Some kind of official statement from either of the parties would be appreciated though.
