That first link is just what I was looking for - brilliant, thank you - can't spot the train on there that you are using as an avatar though.
My avatar is a 3D printed class 60 locomotive body. I don't have the faintest idea about 3D printing, so last year, I paid a 3D designer to come up with computer aided design (CAD) drawings and now, anyone can buy a class 60 from Shapeways. All you are buying is a plastic type, white base colour, unpainted body shell, which fits onto the Plarail EF58 electric locomotive chassis - This is quite a straightforward project, but to keep the cost as low as possible, these are intended to be a head start on scratch building, so please be aware that you will need to cut your own slot in the roof for the on/off switch ! The 3D guy, that I hired, is a freelance designer and charges a one off payment, typically around £200 for his CAD drawings which Shapeways then use, to manufacture the model when a customer orders one.
I would consider co-ordinating another 3D model later this year and I was considering a class 20 or 37 as they have been around for half a century in the UK.
The price is expensive I'm afraid, at £49 per body shell, but there doesn't seem to be any other way to make the cost more reasonable. One printing firm I approached, wanted to charge an outrageous £250 for only one body shell so, without doubt, (for anyone who fancies having a go at planning their own design/print idea) it pays to shop around.
