How do you swap faces?

Hi, I've recently discovered the little screw that attaches Thomas' face to his smokebox, and I'm wondering how I can be sure to get the face on and off without damaging such a tiny screw. I have no screwdrivers that fit in the space, and I don't want to rip off the smokebox, but my Mom managed to get the screw out the first time. I was having trouble getting it back in without the screwdriver slipping a bit.

For sure having the right screw driver will cause you far less pain when dealing with repairs and customization. I have had many stripped just because of using the wrong screwdriver. And once that happens it is 10x worse. You can use a straight screwdriver sometimes depending on the screw you are removing. Just be patient and get the right tools and things will go smooth. Some of the faces are just glued on but some can be quite tricky to get off.

Here is a suggestion that may work although I have not tried it. Make a visit to your local Pharmacy like CVS, Rite Aid etc. and pick up a Eyewear Repair Kit. They generally have a small screwdriver that may work for you. probably only around $2. Just cash in some soda cans and give it a try. The kit may have a slotted screwdriver but it probably small enough to fit the Philips head screw..

P.S.: Just remembered I had an idea once of turning my old Steam Along Clarabel into Percy's mail coach. I never really liked the look of the TOMY mail coaches, but they're quite rare anyway, so I was thinking making my own MIGHT be a better idea.

They also have this neat little set with small screwdrivers which I have. They are a little longer wbut they do work on the face screws because they have small heads. I have one very, very similar, but there are also flathead screwdrivers and the case is red. We're using the smallest phillip's head.

I have that set as well. Did you try any of those flat head screwdrivers.

Yes, they fit in the hole, but are a lot harder to actually make grip.
