My name is James and when I was a kid many moons ago I used to have a sizable Tomy Thomas collection (for what you could get in the US at least) Unfortunately all that got sold in a yard sale a long time ago, but i’ve recently gotten back into the Tomy trains and it’s been a lot of fun so far. My hobbies outside of collecting Thomas products include working on my 2000 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3 Vortec (hopefully some of you will know what language i’m speaking there) and Nintendo which i recently got into as well.

I see it's been a year since the last person posted here, but hopefully it's not as quiet as that would indicate, and there are many active fans of blue tracks here still!

I got involved with Plarail after finding some cheap Tomica tracks and trains on Facebook last year summer, and me and my son loved it. Since then we've purchased more second hand sets, bought a train on my short trip to Japan, and bought more stuff from ebay. So the collection keeps growing and we're having more fun.

I'll have some questions about builds here as we're struggling with a few 'layout alignment issues' and looking for a spare for a particular train.

We also started a Youtube channel in January where I aim to do a one larger build each month, and we spend some time playing with it. Check it out in spare time please 🙂

My name is PRRFanDoesTrainz, fairly new here, just joined yesterday in fact! I am a huge fan of the Pennsylvania Railroad, and a pround owner of a Complete Giant Tomy Thomas. My favorite locomotive is the PRR's T1. I started collecting Tomy about a year ago and plan to expand my collection. Although my main priorities right now is my Thomas Wooden Railway collection, I will always accept Tomy as part of my Thomas collection!

'Two' new members joining in one day? That seems new to me.

Technically, the last total newcomer (RustyRedNo_5) posted here last December, so it's been much less than a year at the time of writing. This veteran community will be more than happy to help out with spare parts, layout designs and identifying items whenever needed. Personally, I'll only share my thoughts and suggestions once you'll start one or more separate threads for your layouts, because this isn't really the place to do so.

As for you, PRRFan: Luckily, we have a Brown Wooden Tracks board that should be the perfect place for you (assuming you haven't found it yet), so we don't just leave out users of other brands (Thom Tank, Chuggers, whatever floats your railboat). If it's even somehow related, BPT has it covered.

Sadly we do have more Spammers joining than we have new members that we take care of on a daily basis to protect our membership. I'm new too. We have a team of Plarailers who deal with verification of phantom gems of Plarail and our main mission is to excavate the true past of every unknown corner of Plarail. We know many things about the Japanese Plarails, and we hold research material here and there about each of these Plarails. What is this rail? Where did this vehicle come from? What is the manufacture period of this item? My team and I answer all these questions. Don't forget Super himself too, his collection of Tomica World proves my lack of knowledge in that area.

Hi all, I'm Matt and I'm here because I've recently dug out my old Tomy collection from the loft (the things you do when furloughed). I was very fortunate as a kid in the early 90s to have quite a large Tomy collection that is now vintage and it makes me feel old. I was also fortunate that my dad recorded out Christmas mornings so I can pinpoint the time I actually received certain items and it has helped me determine what sets I had. Look at this nerd getting his Inter City in 1995:

I've been looking around for information on vintage stuff here and while it seems to be in the minority it certainly is a deep rabbit hole! I spent an hour watching Super's Powerful Gordon tribute build, fascinating.

My aim is to document this all in a thread in the Tomy section as I go through and clean things up, I've already come across a few oddities and I'll be bumping a few old threads (apologies to anyone this annoys but it's relevant information). I may be in a position to produce a limited number of a specific spare part for vintage trains, how that works out is yet to be determined. I'll leave you with this teaser shot of some of the stuff I'll be going through and have done to some extent.

Welcome, Matt! We're always happy to have anyone with such great early childhood possessions that are getting harder and harder to come across even online. If you're also into LEGO or similar brick brands, I'm sure you'll adore the way these ranges can be used with them almost seamlessly. It's a bit of a shame the vehicles have uneven numbers of studs (5 wide trains, 3 wide cars), so it might be too hard to take advantage of the cross compatibilty beyond buildings, cranes etc.. If only Plarail trains could run in both directions naturally like these.

Say, have you also had Plarail in addition to this type? They coexisted with each other back then (including both Thomas ranges), so surely some of those ended up in your collections as well. I'm sure there won't be a problem with old threads being bumped here unlike elsewhere, so feel free to add your info once you'll find them. Enjoy your battery powered ride.

Thanks both of you, I've had a lot on so haven't been able to start the thread I wanted to yet. I have however gone through and washed all of the track. I do have a reasonable LEGO collection so will investigate how it all fits together, the Inter City station certainly has plenty of parts to it. I actually found some LEGO pieces in the boxes with the Tomy trains. I saw a discussion about one of the 'steamer' trains having no studs on the top, I have one of those so will point that out when I get to it.

Unfortunately I didn't have any Plarail, I'm in the UK and I'm not sure how much it was sold here. I do have a selection of Tomica World road that was used in conjunction with the Tomy track a few years later than my original trains and track, along with a couple of road/rail tunnels and a couple of battery powered cars but no light blue track whatsoever. One of the things I intend to add to an old thread is a copy of my Tomica World booklet from around 1998 (ref. 0484) which has all of the Thomas & Friends items in it along with the 'normal' items shown in a scanned copy in said thread.

Hi, everybody! I'm Ryan, and I've been a Thomas fan since early childhood.

When I was a kid, I was an avid collector of the Wooden Railway range, but I also had a few Motor Road and Rail and Take-Along trains, too. I'm primarily here for tips on how to restore and modify pre-existing trains and make customs of my own, since I plan on doing so starting this summer.

Welcome, Mr. Bannon. So, you were one of those who owned items from all three leading merchandise brands. The Wooden range shouldn't be too hard to modify compared to TOMY/TrackMaster, but the active members here are more familiar and experienced with the latter. I've just looked you up, and you're an animation enthusiast/student and FANDOM (Wikia) user. I'd be happy to see how your skills would translate from 2D to 3D since I couldn't find much that's not on paper. Looking forward to seeing what you have planned.
