Who is This guy?

I am curious as I don't recognize this Thomas motorized (wood burner?) steam engine with large funnel. Is this the only large funnel engine in the Thomas, Tomy or Trackmaster line?

This is Dash, one of the Gypsy twin engines introduced in "Misty Island Rescue" with a twin brother named Bash; Bash was only sold in a large log loading set with Thomas, which fetches about $250.00 U.S. on eBay with free shipping.

Now that you have mentioned Misty Island Rescue, I do seem to recall watching that movie with my Grandson when it was released and now remember Bash & Dash. Wasn't there a third brother, Ferdinand or am I getting the movies mixed up?

What really piqued my interest in this particular one is the detail of the large funnel, domes and the headlight on the boiler. They seem to be much better than the ones I have seen pictured her.

That would be correct. Three logging locomotives, all American I must add, were introduced in Misty Island Rescue-- Bash and Dash, Gypsy logging locomotives, and the gentle giant Ferdinand, a 3-truck Class C Climax logging locomotive. All three, much like a great deal of Sharon Miller's characters, are highly controversial; Plarail only made Bash and Dash, with rumours of the canceling of further manufacturing of said engines. The Logging Locos are available from Fisher-Price; it took nearly two years before Ferdinand started showing up on store shelves where I live in the U.S.A.

Plarail Dash is readily available but the Plarail Bash is only available in the set mentioned above for a premium, I have reviewed Plarail Dash and its a gem! I have not yet had the Trackmaster versions visit my railway but soon 😃

The TOMY one might begin becoming rare with it being discontinued; Plarail Connor has been assigned TS-16, which was formerly Dash.

Thanks HankAmericanEngine, You are a wealth of knowledge. I really don't understand why Tomy has to reuse numbers for trains, tracks and accessories. Aren't their enough numbers to go around?

The company has updated the box artwork and numbering system, as a lot of the golden characters like Donald, Oliver, Stepney, and BoCo are being discontinued for production of newer characters.

Bash & Dash are modeled after The Bear Harbor #1... and it, and the "The Falk"#1 are the last two of their kind in existence left in the world (Gypsy), AND BOTH are housed basically in our backyard where we live!!🙂
We visited them just today at the Fort Humboldt & Logging museum.🙂

Bash and Dash were originally going to look far more accurate to their appearances in the TV show, at least in their Trackmaster releases. Prototype pictures of the Trackmaster Greatest Moments Bash and Dash featured a drastically different design from the final, although it looked like that original design was going to come with a price: painted on weathering of sort, looks to me like green specks, maybe moss??? Why would engines have moss grow on them?

These little engines were used under some of the harshest and miserable conditions any train could endure...Clearing the ancient redwood rainforests of the Pacific Northwest..Wet, dank, mossy, fern covered terrain covered by a 300 ft canopy that creates natural fog banks, in a humid climate that saw heavy rainfall year round!! Perfect conditions for moss to grow on anything not in motion!!🙂

This is one of the things that has me puzzled as well, if you want to collect a set of something it drives you crazy as you never know how many TS-16's or whatever there have been, let alone what order they were released in, or which ones are the rarer ones.

They have just started their 3rd re-iteration of the PlaRail Advance system if anyone is interested, so far AS-17 and AS-09 are being replaced, the former with a Yamote Line suburban, the latter with a suburban of some type but which I'm not familiar with, although it has a similar colour scheme to the 8000/9000 series. If you're into Advance this latter one is quite important as it's replacing the Cassiopia so if you don't have the Cassy now is the time to pick one up before they start rocketing in price!!
