How cool but after viewing the site, how disappointing. Only one picture of the layout and no video? Maybe Panasonic is not a leader in technology if they didn't hire a videographer and photographer. I would really like to see a whole album of pictures from this layout. It also begs the question...did they alter the Shinkansens motor to draw less power or something and did they take a pack of batteries of the rack of the nearest store or use something specially configured at the factory. Not that I don't think this was all cool but just the strain of going that high and an Alkaline battery for that distance.....I want to see more.

Wish I had 100,000 or whatever bucks to build one. That would be awsome ! I miss those old stackable gurders Tomy Thomas offered. You just can't get it with trackmaster anymore.

does anyone have personal experience with this battery? tempted to buy a few packs for the next show, try and make things a bit more streamlined and not having to change batteries all the darn time.

the whole thing is amazing. goes to show what a big pull plarail has over there.

I have not tried this battery but i do use Sanyo's Eneloop rechargeable batteries. Also purchased a 16 battery charger and double AA conversion case for C batteries. So all of my locomotives now run on just AA batteries. 😃

I have switched over to just rechargeable's I love it my charger charges both C and AA so I am good to go!

I use these "C" to "AA" conversion cases also but it does not fit in all trains. What do yours look like? I have over 200 AA Energizer Lithium Ultimate batteries that I got very cheap and also try to use "AA"s to replace the "C" batteries. For some reason some of the trains run better on the AA than the C but I don't know why. My battery charger unit charges all batteries, 9volt AA, AAA, D, C. Ni-Cd, Ni-Mh and Alkaline...yes, the charger I have has a switch for recharging Alkalines. They say an Alkaline can be charged up no more than 10 times. It does work so I have been getting extra life from my batteries.

Interesting discussion. I've always just used the rechargeable NIMH batteries from Harbor Freight, though I do usually pay the extra dollar or to per pack to get the higher MA version.

Can someone link to the C-to-AA conversion cases. I'd be interested to try these even though I've already got some rechargeable C batteries.

You don't have to use the cases if you don't have any.. The AA battery is the same length so here is something that should work...at your local hardware or home center you can find different sizes and width's of foam weather stripping with one side sticky. Just find the right thickness to place under the battery to make up the difference from an AA to C and you should be good to go.. Its been so long since I bought my cases I will have to check where I got them although I know it was Ebay and from China or somewhere. Will check.

Ive been involved in this same discussion on FB plarail groups and someone had said some trains that run on C size wont stay on the track well when a AA is used in its place, the C battery actual works as a counter weight to the motor in some Plarail trains, I am pretty sure the EH200-1 Blue Thunder is an example of this phenomena

That is exactly true Gerisplarail1, I had forgotten about that. For those, I have added small weights inside the conversion case. Good info, thanks.

super, i will be looking into recharagables at some stage. just about go broke buying batteries, lol.

ive looked at the conversion cases for aa/c, havent got around to buying any yet.

Never thought about the weight of the C battery affects the locomotives.

I guess i have not really noticed. maybe it just goes faster a little with less weight 😃
Right now I only have 64 AA and 16 AAA batteries.

With the AA to C converter is there no difference at in how the train runs speed wise or longevity of battery life?

My cases seem to be not as thick as ActionChuggers pictured above so maybe his weighs a bit more. Now that Gerisplarail mentions it I did have some engines do wheelies going up hills using the converter cases because the counter weighing is off. I helped that out by placing weights inside the case but now that I think of it maybe just removing the counter weight in the back of the engine may work.

I notice that the "C" size engines run better with "AA"'s but that may be due to me using the Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA's. I do notice that performance wise, using real batteries are better than rechargibles. I guess because they are a full 1.5volts rather than the 1.2volt the recharges max out at. Wonder why they aren't maxed out at a full 1.5?
