Nigels Here's today's Hornby arrivals, this time a couple of less common models. Firstly we have a nice example of a Class 86 electric loco, this one being the 'City of Lichfield', in pretty good condition about the only damage I can find is one of the name labels is slightly damaged. But this is something that can be rectified easily or even enhanced by fitting some etched brass name plates or similar. I've included some close ups as there are some really interesting details on this model including a quite detailed set of cab details with proper controls etc... although this may not be quite as visible from these shots (I'll have to get my SLR out again 🙂 The other interesting detail is that this model not only has a pantograph, but a real working pantograph. If you notice slightly behind the pantograph there is a small switch, in one position it draws power like most model trains from the wheels/rails, in the other position it uses the overhead pantograph - although of course you would need track with a functioning set of catenary to provide the power. The other model is a 'Terrier' class 0-6-0 tank loco, this is quite a small loco, physically about the same size as the little 0-4-0 pug loco's or even smaller. However the detail is way greater than most small tank loco's that get modelled. The other interesting thing about this loco is that this is the same class as the real life 'Stepney' which was made into a Thomas character of the same name 🙂
fred16850 Wish they made a new Stepney, as he appears in real life on the Bluebell Railway, or at the very least a re-release of the original Thomas and Friends edition. Terriers are always nice to look at..😃
Nigels I know what you mean Fred, they used to make a real life version of Stepney as well as the Thomas version, but at the moment that livery of Terrier is not available as far as I know. Can't say I've even seen a second hand one for some time either 🙁
Super I love these...those cab control details are fantastic in the City of Lichfield. Some times I forget that these are only OO scale as with the detail and close up pictures they look bigger. And a working pantograph system too...wow. That Terrier is so cool, love the front and rear cab windows, are they glazed?
Nigels I know its amazing the details they put into 00 models and the Electric calss 86 wasn't even one of the new Chinese 'super detail' hornby's this example is an old one from the 80's I think 🙂 The Terrier front windows are glazed, the rear ones with the bars are not 🙂
fred16850 Hornby needs to release one too, it would be so cool to see. I think the only one Hornby's done was the Thomas and Friends one, but I might be mistaken..
Chrizzly Sorry, but you're mistaken. https://www.hornby.com/uk-en/shop/locomotives/steam-locomotives/wc-plr-0-6-0t-4-stroudley-terrier-class.html
fred16850 I meant the Bluebell Railway Stepney, as in the real-life railway. Hornby has released other Terriers, but not Stepney "sans-face". This is the one I want to see Hornby release.
Nigels I thought they had at one point Fred, I'll have to check, or maybe pop up the bluebell see if they got any in their shop :-)
