You'd be surprised, as soon as something becomes discontinued it does garner a higher price, especially if new and boxed.
Another classic example is the Tomy PlaRail Advance system. Until discontinued they could be purchased dead cheap, one reason I got into collecting them, that and the fact I like them being more to scale length than the normal PlaRail, yet compatible with the existing track. Whereas at that time you could pick up a loco set typically for less than the equivalent PlaRail model, now some of the loco sets are now on eBay for anything up to nearly $100, some of the starter sets which I was buying for the equivalent of about $30 are now nearer to $200. The moral is that once something is discontinued that is actually good and collectors get interested the sky is the limit. What my 'super station' is worth now is anyone's guess as it was only released a few months before they canned the line and was quite expensive even then - glad its still NIB 😃
