Are these c62s rare, I know Muddy did a video on these, but how hard are these to find?

Its on auctions now and I'll be your rival. Since I already have the 1st generation C-62, I can't afford to give this one up now can I?
If this one is around the same price or more than Muddy's like new C-62, I will be much surprised.

150000 yen for a boxed clear C-62 is too much, I don’t it will exceed 70000 yen. The 1st generation C-62 without the box and incomplete formation already costed me 50000 yen.

Ok...Well I know what I had to pay to get ours against 5 other bidders, and it was without its box.
Whatever the 1st generation C62’s story is, it was mass produced, if only for a short time, and sold to the general public correct?

Yes. Sold to general public, however numbers are extremely small in production and only 15 survivors today. That was out of print 41 years ago. Front switch definitely would increase the price too.
The clear C-62 is different as most of them are consumed as children’s toys rather than a collector’s item, the clear C-62 was manufactured during or after 2003 so it was out of print 17 years ago which greatly differs the value from the first generation C-62. The mechanical gimmicks 42 years ago versus the electronic gimmicks 17 years ago are no match so it’s all on the community’s desire on how far they want to go just to get the clear C-62. I bet Muddy is trying to get another clear C-62?

It’s basically almost why a used Relay Shinkansen リレー号 costed more than a used Hankyu 6350 Commuter Express, and why the Kansai Colour or Yokosuka Colour costed 5 times more than both of the Relay and Hankyu although they are the same mold. Mainly because the Kansai Colour and Yokosuka Colour is older and all the same mold trains above were discontinued 1 year later after manufacture.

I will say this:
If you are a collector, and these trains are your passion, ask yourself this:
Do I collect trains or money?
Money is only worth its value to acquire the things in life that you want or need.
$1500 is only worth $1500
You can collect money all day, and save it forever, but the opportunity to use it to secure things that are rarer than money only come around (if you are lucky) every so often.
I don’t like to throw around prices that I’ve paid for things, but I will give you an example of just what I mean...
I have THE Gold Thomas.
It cost me $1000 to get it, but I would have paid every cent that I owned more if I had to to win it, because I NOW HAVE IT.
To have it is worth more than any amount of money in the world.
A millionaire cannot have it even with all of his money, because he cannot find one, and I would never sell it. EVER.

Nope.
I would absolutely love to have this with its box, but I know how much it’s going to go for, and honestly I just cannot justify trying to get another one.
I do hope that a member can win it though, so that it stays within our community.🙂

Apart from knowing how many clear C-62 are there, I like to also know how many times both C-62s were ever auctioned on Yahoo. I haven’t really checked clear C-62, but I know that the first generation C-62 was only auctioned 4 times ever since Yahoo auctions existed 8 years ago, and 3 of them were in sets, only 1 as a single item.

Maybe Muddy will change his mind in case the auction is ending at a cheaper price? You never know until someone starts an auto extension bid war.

This is only the 3rd Clear C62 set that I’ve ever seen at auction in 5 years.
The first was yellowed from nicotine, and still sold for $600 usd.
The second set that I won is pristine, but without its box, and was considerably more...
And now this one.

Should have known better Super... This will never be the 1st generation C-62. I mean C-62汽笛入り, which is a phantom gem of Plarail with the strongest rarity of 1978. Manufactured in 1978 and discontinued in less than a year later. All C-62 and the 4th generation box design were completely replaced by 5th generation EC box 3 years later, so no more 4th generation in stores at the time EC box were in the shops. Its box was NEVER EVER auctioned before, the box could easily go more than 150000 yen if that happens. That are 2 auctions so far. It shows the closing price, but when an auction is bought out, it won't track it for some reason. That is why you don't see auctions ending with the value equal to their buyout prices.

EDIT: I mean most, not all, auctions ending with the value equal to their buyout prices.

My confusion was that I thought we were talking about this pair of clear C-62's and the only other set I knew of like it was the Double Real Sound set I pictured.

No apologies needed, especially the topic was almost thought as the Double Set C-62. About the standard double set C-62, the average price is 15000 yen for a new in box set. However if the Umekoji Plakids was bundled together to make the original Umekoji bundle, it will cost more than 180000 yen as estimated from the last Umekoji Plakids auction. Those Umekoji Plakids rarity are on par of the rarity of clear C-62.

I gave up the clear C-62. 5 different bidders going above 30000 yen. Boxed clear C-62 ended at 42001 yen + 4200 yen VAT which was lower than first generation C-62 without the box (50000 yen)
