FfarquharDeveloper Here's my Custom Tomy Old Slow Coach so far. I know that Plarail's already made one but I want to give a custom one a try considering Plarail's is slightly inaccurate, a bit expensive on eBay, and has banners. A Steam Along Thomas Clarabel that I had laying around was used to make the Custom. I have only gotten to finishing most reshaping, I have yet to prime it as of the 15th. Before Sanding Sanding the roof vents off Once the sanding was completed, reshaping began. After reshaping by sanding, I put in index cards to minimize the amount of Milliput I would have to use. Then it was time to add the Milliput. Holes were drilled out to provide more windows on the model, in addition, some of the side panels were also filled in. The next step was evening out the sides and adding more onto the roof, this was reshaped early then sanded later on. More filing and sanding happened and now the custom looks like this.
FfarquharDeveloper Thank you! I'm excited to get this done but getting the face is gonna cost quite a bit due to shipping expenses.
DalaGStanator FfarquharDeveloper wrote getting the face is gonna cost quite a bit due to shipping expenses. Will it be a Hornby/Nakayoshi/Bandai TEC face or a 3D printed/non OSC one? Nakayoshi seems to have the best size and paint for Plarail, so I hope that's the one you're going with. On another note, "Happy Ever After" has a shot that reveals her other end, and she happens to have another window. Sadly, this causes an issue with the way your TOMY version is built; You have the guard's compartment on the rear end like Clarabel's, whereas OSC always travelled back to front. There's no way to turn the shell around because of the hook coupling, so you might want to fit one from a power tender on the peg and have her be like Splatter and Dodge's coach. Percy would have to face away from her, but it would allow Thomas to be coupled where the face is. In spite of that, I think she'll turn out so great it wouldn't be worth trying to start over.
FfarquharDeveloper I wanted to have OSC face backwards for a few reasons, the main reason being so that if I make more Great Western Coaches the guard's compartment is at the rear. Though with face right now I'm planning on reshaping a Lorry 1 face however, I might actually use a nakayoshi face now that you've mentioned it, if I can get my hands on a Nakayoshi Old Slow Coach for a good price. With the Window I'm most likely going to design a custom sticker for the window simply bc I do not want to go through the pain of drilling holes in the back.
FfarquharDeveloper I primed my Old Slow Coach custom and my Derek Custom today. Here's Old Slow Coach. Also really hoping I don't get cancer since the Tamiya Spray Paint had a warning for that. I need to get proper protective equipment for next time.
DalaGStanator Surprise! It seems our good old Spaniard "Steamworks workman" just got the idea to do his own Old Slow Coach in a fairly similar way to FfarDev's. She s[/s] doesn't have the guard's compartment, but the modifications look near identical. He's even making a custom face for her that looks to be specially sculpted. If it happens to be a cast of an existing item, then I don't recognize what it was. Chances are it will even be on the back like on FfarDev's, going by the blocked windows. Here's hoping both versions will turn out looking as grand as the original OSC.
Super I am curious to see that sculpted face after he creates a mold with it and a finished product. I assume he will sell them as he does with all the customs he creates. Question: Is Old Slow Coach a female?
DalaGStanator Super wrote Question: Is Old Slow Coach a female? Yes, like most of the sentient coaches. There were no male ones with faces until the Slip Coaches (two males, one female) appeared 17 years later.
Super Thanks Lag, I think I may have talked about this before but when I here the name 'Old Slow Coach' I just picture a male. FfarquharDeveloper wrote Also really hoping I don't get cancer since the Tamiya Spray Paint had a warning for that. I need to get proper protective equipment for next time. Yes, plus spraying indoors the fumes will linger for a while and you and your house mates will re-breath it for a while. Why not spray outdoors if you don't have a way of venting?
FfarquharDeveloper Most of the season 5 characters have similar faces. Also I started painting her finally.
DalaGStanator One of the only things I didn't like about CT's version was the shade of brown he used. He made her so dark that it looks a tiny bit like the shade she had before being restored, while you seem to have found one that better matches the more chocolate brown she's had since then (at least in the second photo). Thanks for doing a better job on that aspect of her, and I'm still looking forward to seeing the white parts and face choice.
Super Looking good Ffar...anxious to see the final results. Thats one of the advantages of using an Airbrush as its easy to mix colors to match what you want where as Custom Trackmaster mostly uses rattle, spray cans, where he is limited to those manufactured colors. He does have an Airbrush but I think he prefers spray cans because it looks like he is concerned with building the customs fast and many of them to sell.
