I posted about a month and half ago about trains I had in my possession which were of interest to some of members of this fine forum. So today, I finally posted them on eBay. The ad can be found here: eBay Alfie, Ned & Jack

That is why it is on eBay. Highest bidder win's. I cannot fault someone for wanting to get the most out of an auction when we all would want the same if we were selling it.

I must say quite franly I'm upset on how much these have gone for, as much as I know that this is a "whatever the buyer is willing to pay" case, its really sad. I personally want an Alfie and Ned for my collection but I don't understand the appeal of paying that much for a trackmaster item that is not even functional on road pieces.

I will say this, as I hate to play devil's advocate, are this bids legitimate? I certinally hope these aren't fake bids made by a troll to drive up the price and not willing to actually pay for/buy the item.

Who would not want an Alfie? Only 300 made and they were only released in Canada. They do not come up for sale often besides on less known or visible websites. Because it is on eBay it will get more. I doubt they are not real bids. I know many people who are interested in this item.

I guess people have forgotten that the last time an Alfie came up at auction was over 5 years ago and sold for over $400 US. Alfie is an extremely rare item for collectors of Thomas and Friends and Trackmaster, and as much as people don't want to hear it, this is what he's worth, and this is the price you'll have to pay if you want one.

GGF, yes 300 I confirmed this with a contact that was a Director for T&F at HIT.

Now I have even less hope of ever obtaining one. 🙁

Also, regarding a comment that it does not work on rails, it does, but apparently it'll get stuck on some corners (only repeating what I heard on this forum).

But I did test it on tracks, and it works.

I think the situation was he was selling his kids’ toys and realized that the Alfie was particularly rare so he came here to get more info. Given that, I assumed he probably purchased them new at whatever local toy store sold them way back when. It true, I assume he paid about $25 or thereabouts for all three. Decent return on investment!

I don't remember. I bought 3-4 lots on classified ads website 5 years ago. I got them in one of those lots, not sure which one. I never really used them since it annoyed me (and my son) that you have to flip them over to turn them on. Other trains have the switch on top which is more convenient. I'm honestly surprised that after 2 moves, I managed to keep the accompanying accessories. These things are tiny.

The trains had been sitting in a plastic storage container for the better part of the past 5 years.

I'm glad someone is going to enjoy them for their true value. And thx for the good story guys, it's been fun. Now I'm just a normal guy with no Alfie 😉

Edit: And the price paid must have been sub 100$ FWIW, which according to my email, seems to also have come with the 3 RC Control Train (One red, one blue, one green), I think it's that lot.
