Train Simulator Classic and Train Sim World Discussion

The following thread is for those playing Dovetail Games popular train games "Train Sim World 3" and "Train Simulator Classic" for PC (via Steam) or console.

Train Simulator classic is the oldest game and are for hardcore train fans who want to experience being a real life conductor and that means traveling on hour or longer train rides to the next station and mastering your train and passing. While it uses the same engine from 2008, developers continue to find a way to push the limits and create awesome DLC to this day and there are no signs of slowdown.

Train Sim World was released in 2002 and features better graphics but more of an arcade style and feel. While there are longer tracks, not as long as Train Simulator classic and it is more forgiving than Train Simulator Classic if you mess up. Also, a growing DLC library.

For those looking for Japanese lines, so far it's only on Train Simulator Classic.

While diehards will order DLC directly from the creators, One may want to use STEAM to play their games due to the large number of sales they have all year long, esp. during the holidays.

It's fun but for "Train Simulator Classic", it can be unforgiving. There is one Japanese add on DLC "The Story of Forest Rail" (this is the only one that is not an actual realistic train) in which you use an old bus converted to a train in the countryside of Japan. I think you have to drive the train which keeps on breaking down when it overheats and getting back up for I believe which is like an hour and 40 minutes or so.

Granted, you can hit escape and pause but my goodness it's such a long ride on the countryside that you just want to fall asleep. But what I mean by "unforgiving", when I got towards the end, there are two train stops and the second to the last, I didn't slow down in time and barely went past the station stop by inches, but I failed the mission and I have to do it all over again. Considering how long it took....ughh..

It took so long just to fail. Train Simulator Classic really does a great job giving you that experience and feeling of being control of a train but like in real life, a mistake can cost you.

That's why I'm playing "Train Sim World 3" more now...because if I accidentally forget to switch A/C to D/C for the pantograph, I have seconds to correct it. And I can continue on my mission of driving passengers to another train stop (you lose points, rather than lose the game). Whereas "Train Simulator Classic", mistakes are barely tolerated. Also, TSW3...missions are not too long. 30-40 min. is long but anything past an hour or hour and half....can be a drag.

However, in rare cases our licences expire without renewal and whilst we do our best to work closely with our licensors, it can result in us needing to make changes to how we distribute and sell affected content.
