Trackmaster Toby vs Tomy Toby

While amassing a stash of, new in the box, Thomas and Friends trains for my future generations of which I have acquired 18 to date, I have been looking at Toby. Are there any video, side by side reviews that you know of or if anyone has opinions on the original Trackmaster Toby (non-talking & not revolution) and the Tomy Toby. I have had several used Toby Trackmasters that I have stripped for parts most recently two that I removed the black wheels and motors from. I quite like the look of the Trackmaster with black wheels and fake ones in the middle. I noticed the Tomy version has grey wheels and no middle fake wheel. The Tomy version comes with Henrietta and troublesome truck while the Trackmaster comes with a neat blueish coach and yellow van in the Electric Co. Delivery Set. Any opinions?

By original you mean the fisher price version right? I would think the Hit Toys version is better in terms of quality, compared to FP. I personally have a plarail Toby that has a gray wheels with the middle one.

Oh, so there is a grey middle wheel. I didn't notice it in the pictures I have seen. Does the HiT version also have gray wheels? The bodies look almost identical, could they be interchangable? How about the motors, could they also be the same in Trackmaster and Tomy? I have noticed that some have painted number 7 on the side and I have had some with a sticker like the Tomy shell I have here now.

They are very very similar if not identical. The King of Tobys is of course the flip face/flip load version from trackmaster which came in the copper mine set.

I would say the king of Toby's is the Japanese Talk 'n Action Toby considering it's rarity..

Thanks Muddy but I would just need a comparison of a original Trackmaster Toby and a Tomy Toby. I am not buying any of the Trackmaster 2 or Revolution whatever they call the new release.

My Toby is the one that Muddy Poppins compared to the TOMY Toby, except I replaced mine's drive unit with one from a TOMY Thomas, largely due to the original switch being annoyingly stiff, but also to ensure better running. I got it from the Whistling Woods set.

Many thanks all for the help. I can't believe I am saying this but I think I am leaning towards the original Trackmaster Toby with Thomas type drive. I do like the 2012 Toby shell with the hand rails in the doorways but I am guessing that the flat drive is louder. Does anyone know if it is? I also see from the help given here that it is the Tomy version that used the stickered #7 which is another unusual thing to say for me.

Another question...
Would the Original Trackmaster Toby set be the one that came with Henrietta and a Troublesome Truck and the 2012 version the Toby's Electric Co. Delivery set with blueish coach and yellow van?

If original is the first ever 2007 TrackMaster Toby by HiT Toy Company, then it the mainstream US release in Little Friends by himself with a half straight track piece. Next would be the more exclusive US 3-pack with Henrietta and the Troublesome Truck which did not change its cars the following year unlike other engines. The Little Friends Toby was then re-released without the track piece in 2009.

Whilst the 2012 TrackMaster by Fisher-Price Toby was first sold in Toby's Electric Co. Delivery, the Little and Big Friends releases updated soon after as well, with the Big Friends still retaining the blue van.

The one with the blue coal car and the one with Henrietta you can hardly see the middle wheel. I can pick out the Trackmasters as they have split front axles and black wheels. Hmmm, I don't see the flat drive 2012 Trackmaster one. Are there 2 Trackmaster, 2 Tomy and 2 multi branded, HiT, Trackmaster, Tomy? Which one of the far left Trackmaster and the Tomy next to it is the quietest? Or are they similar in sound as I think they use the same motor?
