So in the new ad for the new set it looks like Thomas and Percy are back to there pre 2018 designs . This is a very interesting choice to take the line in . I do not know when they will go back to the old face are they already out in Japan ?

the new one just seems to be a direct reissue of the original one, would love to see if they kept any other toolings for other discontinued characters but I’m not counting on it

In terms of retired characters, wouldn’t they have to pay a licensing fee to bring them back .

If they still with the characters they are already paying the fees for there are some nice varients they could bring back. Two Ideas that I have are the Back and go Thomas and Working hard Thomas .

I don’t think its been officially said but yeah, it seems to be a pretty likely reason as to why they keep introducing variants. Which makes it all the more mind-boggling that they still haven’t reintroduced Diesel given he’s already in the AEG lineup

I think they pay a license fee for everything related to the Thomas & Friends franchise.

Worth noting as well that Sony Creative Products manages how the Thomas & Friends license is distributed in the Japanese market.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there are people who might think that they are Mattel items because they see the logo.

I feel like they would want to redesign him or something . However given the 2 most recent releases . I think we could see the old Diesel return unchanged however I feel plarail just is too lazy to that these days the as the only time a character was brought back was Harvey .

Anyway Marion is on the art for the new set we could see her likely return which unlike Diesel is a way more recent model . The thing is that offical Thomas Japanese website groups both Diesel and Diesel 10 for merch which is weird but may just be as good as a reason that plarail needs to reason to not bring back Diesel .
I could see a complete new Diesel but not these days we have not seen a new mold engine in the main range since Gina back in 2020.
Not to mention on the popularity poll Diesel was not super high up .

Also the popularity poll has NO influence on the merch, it was a completely separate thing with no official confirmation to do anything with the merch.

Does any one know if Takara Tomy has dropped their budget for Thomas .
Not only plarail but capsule plarail and Tomica have been only doing repaints and releases for a few months now .
It is getting concerning

Plarail catalog for fall 2025 drops in October . I wonder what will be retired . Will there be some new items for December shown off .
Percy wagon pack and Harold ringing is missing from the website so that could be a sign . But overall, who knows what what’s going .

So I got the new owigawa Thomas or what I assume is the new Thomas and not old stock but it could’ve easily been what the price was pretty cheap compared to like the price when they raise it when it gets discontinued or whatever .
There is no indication of change .

So the next new item should the be the new mountain set but without the yellow wagon . I have no clue when this will come out it maybe in 2026 . The yellow wagon is like a first time release bonus. They have done this before several times.
