The Sodor Container Car came in the “Let’s Connect and Play! Full Freight Car Collection / つなげてあそぼう!いっぱい貨車コレクション” released in November of 2021.

The black hopper came in some sort of construction set from Plarail, I can’t remember the name of it though but I think it was probably released between 2000-2014 since it had some road vehicles in the set.

But there doesn’t seem to be a makers mark on the box is why I assumed it to be a knockoff like so many others.

I believe the cargo is a basket of Chinese New Year lucky golden apples. I have found the same item sold on Taobao.com as part of a toy fruit/veg/grocery playset, it is not a Tomy item. And there doesn’t appear to be a way to buy the black hopper car, even though its picture appears twice on the listing - the other time it is carrying the basket of tomatoes in this picture.

The listing shows this knock-off Annie carriage which is from “Thomas Medium Set”. (not the original one) However you can only buy the genuine Annie and Clarabel.

The point of interest is that it has re-appeared in pictures among a bunch of other items, mainly Chuggington, on a Chinese site that offers a platform for bootleggers. I would very much like to know whether there is a bootleg black hopper car actually available for sale anywhere, because the listing that has the picture doesn’t give you the option to buy it!

Ah yes, thank you for that. Kevin on a green flatbed was in that set as well, I remember it now.
